What is DreamWorld?
Dreamworld is a whimsical, interactive story adventure for children ages 2–11, that teaches teamwork, emotional intelligence, and creativity.
Each class begins in the “waking world". Here they learn vital lessons they must use in DreamWorld; like how to shadow ski, speak whale, comfort people that are sad, or how to lead a group on an adventure. Then, the teacher uses shadow to project a swirling portal onto the wall — the gateway to Dreamworld. After students perform a short, calming meditation, the portal opens, transporting them into a world they help shape through imagination, music, and movement.
Inside Dreamworld, shadow, music and imagination is woven together to create a world where students become Dream Explorers — fabled heroes who must work together to rescue Candy Town and face the mysterious power known as The Shadow. Along the way, they learn powerful tools for emotional growth and collaboration, all hidden inside playful rituals and challenges:
-
The Breath of the Dragon – a shared deep-breathing exercise where children hum together to “revive” characters or calm storms. It teaches collective focus, breath control, and emotional regulation.
-
Group Points – a cooperative reward system that encourages kindness, patience, and self-control, turning good behavior into a team effort. 30 group points unlock an epic treasure hunt.
-
N.U.R.S.E - students must learn N.U.R.S.E, a conflict de-escalation technique, in order to soothe characters in Dreamworld and progress in the story. Successfully utilizing N.U.R.S.E earns them a point.
What appears to be a magical journey is, in truth, a series of carefully designed social-emotional lessons disguised as play. Children practice mindfulness, empathy, communication, and creative thinking while believing they are on a quest to save Dreamworld.

About the Teacher
The lead teacher & creator of DreamWorld, Spencer Bang, trained as an actor at the University of North Carolina School of The Arts, and has since taught performance-based classes at schools in North Carolina and New York.
DreamWorld was first developed when he was tasked with teaching acting to very young students, and he quickly learned that the way he learned wasn't the way kids aged 5-8 should learn. So, he started using shadow to create a single focal point that young students could focus on. That was the seed that would eventually become an entire world.
Since then, shadow has continued to be an integral element in Dreamworld and has been joined by a panoply of new tools and techniques, such as: puppetry, illustrated stories, scavenger hunts, puzzles, laser lights, bubbles, and instruments.
Together these elements create an interactive story that is immersive, dynamic, hands on and fun!
