Reel Creator
An intensive screen acting and collaborative scene development course that culminates in two headshots and a professionally filmed reel scene.
Reel Creator meets twice weekly, with one extra day for Headshot Day, for a period of three weeks. It is designed for actors at all levels who are interested in creating original work and in need of high-quality materials for their audition portfolio. By the end of the course, participants will have honed their screen acting technique, built a mindset that utilizes the power of positive self-talk, and created a highly competitive audition portfolio that demands attention.
T H E A P P R O A C H
The Dreamer Studio approach believes that this confidence is what will lead our students towards their best work, as writers and actors. As such, the Reel Acting class uses a combination of group exercises and meditations in positive outcomes to equip students with the tools they need to create scenes that bring out their unique skillsets, and best performances. After establishing a foundation of confidence and trust, we will begin to focus on specific techniques of screen acting - but the priority is always to establish a positive connection between our actors and themselves AS actors.
The theory of our approach to scene development is identical, but the specific approach differs. Students will be broken into groups of two and given a series of template scenes to choose from. They can either perform this scene verbatim, use it as a foundation for a different idea, or completely do away with it and create a scene from scratch. The idea is that by giving our students agency in their scene development, they can create characters that are modeled after what they know best: themselves.
R E E L S & H E A D S H O T S
Near the end of the month, students will participate in Headshot Day. This, as the name suggests, is the day that students take their headshots. They are given two looks.
After three weeks of workshopping, students will film their scenes. Each student is given a maximum of three takes on each angle, mimicking the demanding time frames of a tightly scheduled set - this pressure will demand the best of you, and prepare you for professional shoots. After a period of two - six weeks students will receive their edited headshots and reels.
To maximize efficiency, all reels will be shot on location at the class venue. Any location chosen will feature cinematic locations to base your scenes in: looming woods, parking lots, basketball courts, stretches of grass, and the studio spaces themselves.
